Early Intervention

VCPOP

Ventura County Power Over Psychosis is an early-intervention program for 16-25-year-olds who are experiencing psychosis for the first time. The program serves both First Episode of Psychosis and individually who are Clinically High Risk for psychosis county-wide.

Family and/or identified support system collaboration are an essential part of the serves provided. The team assists young people and their families/identified support systems to build coping skills, increase communication, reduce stress, and increase performance in all areas of the young person’s life.

The team educates community members about the early warning signs of psychosis, provides referral information, conducts assessments designed to identify risk for psychosis, and provides individualized treatment for the young person and their family/identified support system.

Goals of the program include: reducing the number of psychiatric hospitalization, preventing psychiatric hospitalization when symptoms can be treated outpatient, providing education to the support system to manage symptoms and risks as independently as possible, and supporting the individual in care’s recovery goals.
