Every person aged 6 months and older should receive the flu vaccine, every year. 

Flu viruses can change over time. That is why we recommend that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. Flu vaccines will provide protection against three (trivalent vaccine) or four (quadrivalent vaccine) flu viruses and will be available in the fall throughout Ventura County at pharmacies, grocery stores, and other locations.

What To Know About Flu Vaccines

• Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu virus! For general information on flu vaccines, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website. 
  
  
• It is safe to get the flu vaccine simultaneously with other vaccines, including COVID-19.
  
  
• If you are 65 years of age or older, Ventura County Public Health encourages you to get a high dose quadrivalent flu shot. While the regular dose flu vaccine provides those 65 and over with significant protection, the high dose vaccine, with four times the amount of potency, is recommended as seniors have a lower immune response to vaccination, and are at particular risk for experiencing significant and negative outcomes from an influenza infection.

To find a vaccine near you, use Vaccines.gov to find a location near you, then call or visit their website to make an appointment. The Ventura County Health Care Agency offers the following options:

• Ventura County Health Care Agency Ambulatory Care Clinics
  * Cost of vaccine ranges depending on type of vaccine, insurance, and qualifying programs. Our clinics accept VCHCP, Gold Coast Health Plan, Valley Care, as well as many contracted HMOs and PPOs. • Ventura County Public Health Immunization Program at Community Events
  *Flu vaccines at community events are provided to anyone in the community on a first come, first served basis (no appointment needed) at no-cost. For more information, call the Immunization Program at (805) 981-5221.
