2022 Ventura County Medical & Health Vulnerability Assessment (HVA)
What is an HVA?
A Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA) – commonly referred to as a risk assessment – provides a systematic approach to recognizing hazards that may affect the demand for services or the ability to provide those services. Healthcare facilities use this process to assess and document potential hazards that are likely to impact their geographical region, community, facility and patient population. The risks associated with each hazard are analyzed to prioritize planning, mitigation, response, and recovery activities. This approach helps to identify gaps and challenges that should be considered and addressed in the development of an emergency preparedness program.
The HVA is meant to be comprehensive and may include a variety of methods to assess and document potential hazards and their impacts. Healthcare and public health organizations have a diverse range of HVA tools at their disposal and are advised to use the tool that is most suitable for their facility/jurisdiction.
