Medical Therapy Program

The California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP) provides occupational and physical therapy services to children birth to 21 years of age who have medically eligible conditions. Therapy is provided without cost to the family, regardless of income, at the Medical Therapy Unit (MTU).

Referrals to the MTP can be made by anyone (i.e., a parent, teacher, school nurse, or physician).

Goals

  • Work with families to help children maximize independence with life skills.

  • Provide occupational and physical therapy to children who have chronic, long-term physically handicapping conditions.

Services
Services are provided in the MTU in select public school sites. Services include:

  • Medical Therapy Conferences to coordinate therapy needs.

  • Occupational/physical therapy.

  • Consultation for equipment needs.

Our physicians and therapists work with parents or guardians to develop a Medical Therapy Plan tailored to the child’s specific needs. Occupational and/or physical therapy are approved and prescribed as needed by the physician and are provided at each MTU in the program.
