CalFresh Healthy Living
The Ventura County Public Health (VCPH) CalFresh Healthy Living, formerly know as the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Program, offers a variety of free services that include nutrition and garden-based education workshops, healthy recipe demonstrations, physical activity opportunities, and resources for community members and service providers throughout Ventura County. Our work at the local level is guided by the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) program and is part of ongoing efforts to improve the health of families and communities, especially those that are at greater risk of obesity, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
Our Mission
Through statewide, regional, and local partnerships, and program and policy initiatives, we promote healthy eating, physical activity, and food security with an emphasis on communities with the greatest economic and health disparities.
At the local level, we collaborate with partners on policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change efforts, and educate and empower community members to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, develop skills in growing fresh produce, choose healthy beverages, engage in regular physical activity, and improve their food security, with the goal of preventing obesity and other dietary related chronic diseases.
