Shopping for Health Coverage for 2018 is Easy!
Covered California offers a range of choices of quality private health insurance plans. You can choose the health plan and level of coverage that provides the best value for you.
We encourage you to check and see if you qualify for financial help, compare plans and check to be sure the doctors or hospitals you want are included in the networks you are comparing by using the Covered California Provider Search Tool or contacting the health insurance companies directly.
How to Renew with Covered California
In the first weeks of October annually, you should have received an important renewal notice about your health coverage from Covered California. This notice provided available choices for the following year. If you take no action to actively renew or change plans, you will automatically be renewed, 30 days after the date on your renewal notice, into the same plan you had in the previous year if that option is still available. During renewal and open enrollment, you have two options to renew your health plan through Covered California:
Option 1): To make changes to your coverage or switch health plans, use our Shop and Compare Tool to review the plans. Then either log on to your Covered California online account, contact a:
- Certified Insurance Agent or Certified Enrollment Counselor
- Call Covered California at (800) 300-1506 (TTY:  889-4500) to make the change.
Option 2): If you want to keep your same health plan and coverage and if you provided consent, Covered California will automatically check your information with federal government data sources and renew your coverage with the same health plan. You will be automatically renewed in the same health plan, if it is still available.
How to Renew with Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal renewals happen throughout the year, on the anniversary of the member’s enrollment in Medi-Cal. This means that a Medi-Cal renewal may or may not coincide with a Covered California renewal. If someone in your family has Medi-Cal, they will receive a Medi-Cal renewal form from the Human Services Agency. Complete this form and mail or fax it, along with any needed information the county requests, to the human services agency. You can also renew by visiting your county human services agency in person or by calling the phone number on the renewal notice.
