Fillmore Community Project

Program Description:fillmore project

This project provides a variety of mental health treatment, supports and case management services for severely emotionally disturbed children and youth between 0 and 18 years of age in the communities of Fillmore and Piru – both of which are historically underserved communities that are predominantly Latino. These communities include a significant number of migrant workers and Spanish speakers. With fully bilingual and bicultural staff, services are community based, culturally competent, client and family driven and designed to overcome the historical stigma and access barriers to services in these communities.

Successful Outcomes:

Quotes from parents:
"With your assistance, my son has improved a great deal."
"My son has the best doctor and therapist."
"My daughter has progressed a lot."

Services and Supports:

The Fillmore Community Project provides group interventions using evidence based practice models such as Aggression Replacement Training. Outreach efforts are conducted by VCBH support programs, such as One Step a la Vez in the Fillmore area and Promotoras throughout the Santa Clara Valley, which provide wellness, prevention and education outreach efforts to the community. A focus of these outreach efforts is to de-stigmatize mental illness, while supporting the linkage of community members to appropriate mental health services.
