County of Ventura Mental Health Board

The Ventura County Mental Heath Board (MHB) is a state mandated Board.  The Welfare and Institutions Code state law requires each county have a MHB or Commission.  One member of the Board of Supervisors is a member of the MHB.  Each Board of Supervisor appoints four members to the MHB from his/her district for a term of three years and the term can be extended.  The MHB consists of 22 members including the Consumer-at-Large position.

MIssion of the Mental Health Board:

  • Serve as a Liaison between:  the Community, the Behavioral Health Department and the Board of Supervisors.
  • Evaluate Needs
  • Review Programs
  • Monitor Progress
  • Make Recommendations Concerning Mental Health Issues
  • Educate and Advocate for Access to and Delivery of Effective Mental Health Services

Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome to join one of the MHB committees first to obtain some experience or may want to visit several of the MHB meetings before filing an application.  To be appointed to the MHB there must be an opening.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the MHB, please print and complete the application and mail it to Mental Health Board, Ventura County Behavioral Health, 1911 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Oxnard, CA  93036.  To print the application, please click here MHB Application.

Mental Health Board Adult & Housing Services Committee

Monthly Meeting Date/Time:  1st Thursday at 10:00 AM. 

The Adult & Housing Services Committee advocates for continuum of care in the development and expansion of mental health services and housing that supports the stabilization and recovery of clients.

Mental Health Board Older Adult Committee

Monthly Meeting Date/Time:  3rd Thursday at 10:00 AM. 

Meets every other month on even months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec)

The mission of the Older Adult Committee is to advocate for the needs of the seriously mentally ill older adults by providing oversight, evaluation and support of the programs established in Ventura County to serve older adults suffering from a serious mental illness.

Mental Health Board Transitional Age Youth Committee

Monthly Meeting Date/Time:  4th Thursday at 10:30 AM. 

The Transitional Aged Youth Committee is committed to promoting the mental health, wellness and recovery of youth ages 16 through 25.  The committee focuss on these youth in their efforts to launch and become healthy and productive adults.

Mental Health Board/Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board Co-Occurring Disorders Committee

Monthly Meeting Date/Time:  2nd Tuesday at 1:00 PM. 

The mission of the MHB/ADAB Co-Occurring Disorders Committee is to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment for those with the co-occurring disorders of substance abuse and moderate to severe mental illness.
